Cara is 2!! Utah Lifestyle Photographer

Here are the rest. Can I tell you how much FUN this session was? We basically did all her favorite things. It was the last day I had with just the two of us before Andrew was done with preschool. I loved our mornings together. She’s such an easy toddler – completely content to play by herself, but LOVES attention when I sit down with her one on one. And her smile? Infectious. Bright blue eyes? Gorgeous. I’m also obsessed with her long BROWN hair (have you seen my other two toe-headed children?). So happy. I love her to pieces. You can see her newborn, 9 months, and 1 year photos and her 2 year old full gallery as well.

Sunglasses

The “wiggly car”. She loves this thing – and will follow her siblings on their bikes up and down the sidewalk for hours. She’s pretty fast too.

I suppose some might consider this an out-take, but I love it.

Her lovey – “gaffy” and giving kisses.

Best. Toy. Ever. She loves this piggy bank.

Her excited face & blankey.

Scraped knees & flip flops

Eating ice cream like a “big girl”.

Bring on the cake! Woot!!

This photo cracks me up!! She’s a total rockstar!

I did a studio session for a friend the other week, and I LOVE how they turned out. Having a studio is SO lovely. We played around a bit and then got down to cake business – well, she did anyway.:)

Stacking, inside, outside – I love the way that 1 year old’s play.

Apparently she LOVES being upside-down. She kept grinning and begging for more!

I love how she starts out so dainty – just poking at it with one finger…

Hmmm… maybe if I don’t use my hands?

Oh yeah!! I think I’m getting the hang of this…

Oh yeah!! Definitely using the hands!!

Kind of squishy…
Mom? Are you SURE this is okay?

You can also find Elise’s newborn photos here. I hate how fast they grow up.:(

Children + Books: Utah Lifestyle Photographer

A few weeks ago, the amazing Kara Elmore & I met up at the Salt Lake City Library for a little Lifestyle shooting action. I’ve been pushing myself this direction for a few months now and its been so fun to have someone to talk, collaborate and shoot with! If you live up by  Syracuse, check out her work  and HIRE HER! She is AMAZING!

I’d like to just mention how different a Lifestyle session is than a Portrait session. My brain thinks & sees differently for Lifestyle. There’s more “do-ing”, less “sit here and look pretty for the camera”.  Some might say that the sessions are easier, because, well, you don’t have to have everyone posed & smiling happily at the camera. I actually find them MORE difficult. Not only do you have to find an activity that the family/child likes to do, you have to make sure it will look good photographed, and then direct them while they are doing it, all while making sure they act NATURAL. Yeah. Not as easy as it sounds, eh? But, I love the non-perfect poses, the elbows, the knees, the quirky smiles. These types of sessions are so REAL.

I also love the fact that Kara and I can shoot in the same location and come up with such different photos. Shows that each of us have a unique vision. Love it.

So, here are mine (which I’ve discovered its extremely difficult to photograph someone elses’ child while your is screaming – next time we’re getting babysitters):

Cara 9 months: Utah Lifestyle Photographer

Dear Cara,

You are a people person. If anyone walks into your field of vision, you have to smile at them until they make eye contact and smile back in return. You’re happiest when you have someone to watch, whether its your brother & sister, or a stranger in the grocery store, you watch their every movement. You hate being left alone, and cry when everyone leaves the room without you. Most likely within the next week you’ll figure out how to turn your “inching” into actual “crawling” and follow them out of the room so you’re not alone anymore.

You love to eat. More specifically, you love to feed yourself. Pureed foods & spoons don’t really cut it anymore and you seem less satisfied after meals where you are not involved. You do, however, still make a mess. Good thing you love baths too.

You will be content for 20-30 minutes if we pluck you down in front of a bucket of toys. This fascinates me. You pick up each toy, turn it around in your little fist, stick it in your mouth, drop it, and reach for the next toy.

You’re development is a little slow compared to others your age, but I don’t mind. I figure you’ll get there on your own, and I can wait for you to be more mobile. We haven’t even had to lower your crib yet because you don’t know how to pull yourself up yet.

I love that you’re little, that you have messy hair (you just eat your headbands), and that you have the brightest, bluest eyes I’ve ever seen.

love,

Mommy

Baby Hudson – Mini Session

I can’t believe this cute little bundle made me baby hungry! I still have my own baby, there’s just something about them when they are so little… I love it. I had baby Hudson & his older sister in my studio for a mini session last week. Hudson had his baby blessing Sunday, and older sis will be getting baptized in January. I especially love the one of the two of them together. You can tell she ADORES her little brother.
