Madsen Family: Chicago Lifestyle Session

My darling 6 year old & I flew to Chicago to visit my brother & his family. Having just had their 2nd (check out her AMAZING red hair!!), and wanting to take advantage of me we schemed up a lifestyle session in downtown Chicago. My brother is working on his PhD (yes, the brainiac of the family) in accounting at the University of Chicago and graduates next summer so we started there. Can I just tell you the campus is GORGEOUS!? And OLD. I LOVED all of the architecture.

Next we ventured to Museum Campus where they spend a lot of their time, and added in the Chicago skyline (which is AMAZING.) Having only really lived in Utah, I was super impressed with how large a BIG city actually is. Time for us to move? Yes please!

And, finally, to the beach! Although the beach actually borders Lake Michigan, I didn’t actually feel like I was at a lake. More like an ocean. So fun!! Thanks for hanging out you guys! It was SO good to see you!

I love these sessions I’ve had in my clients homes. There is just so much personality involved – we played games, had treats, and were just plain silly sometimes as well.

Spotlight: Deluxe Photo Book

I just received my new sample book and I wanted to share! I offer these as my standard album for family Lifestyle photography sessions, and in one of my lower wedding album packages.

Let me tell you WHY I am so excited about these:

Layflat design – Ever get one of those Shutterfly books and the darn thing just won’t stay open? Yes. I have. Shutterfly has its place, but not for your amazing family or wedding portraits.

Amazing cover choices- This is the first I’ve tried out a combo cover and I LOVE it. Very upscale. Photo on the front and back, and you get to pick from a gazillion (okay, maybe like 30) fabric/leathers for the spine.

Not only is the album layflat, its also a panoramic spread. There’s no gutter down the middle, so its a full 8×16 inches of your photos. Not having a gutter also lets me be more creative in the design.

Well, there you have it!! What do you think?

Let it snow! Utah Lifestyle Photography

Here they are! I’m so excited. This went exactly as I pictured it in my head. There are a couple of reasons for this particular shoot – so I thought I’d share. My kids LOVE building forts, and I love watching their little imaginations go crazy as they play in them. We build all types – big ones, little ones, tall ones, dark ones, bright ones, short ones. Depends on the furniture available and how adventurous I’m feeling at the time.

Reason #2 – I’m obsessed with the Carters brand pajamas. Obsessed. We buy them at Costco twice a year. Once for the winter and once for the summer – so they have their “cold” jammies and their “summer” ones. LOVE. We’ve done this ever since my oldest was a baby – and now she’s actually on her last set. Biggest size they have so we’re going to have to come up with something else for next year (I’m tearing up just thinking about it!). So, I wanted a little something to document the ending of this phase in her (well, really MY) life.

Reason #3 – there has been almost ZERO snow this year. Its a little crazy. We usually have a few feet by now, but today it RAINED. Seriously. I’ve heard its been pretty mild all over the country, but STILL. My kids wanted to play in it – so we just decided to make our own. Pretty sweet stuff. You can buy it on Amazon. Insta-snow I think it’s called. Super fun times.

Reason #4 – They play SO well together. Cara is finally old enough to be interested in what her siblings are doing (except for the pillow fight – she just saw her blankie and decided it was naptime). They love to play legos – and my older 2 are adorable with their little sister.

There you have it. I’m in love with these photos. I can’t wait to print them on canvas’ and hang them in my front living room. Its going to be epic.

Mike & Cassie: Utah Lifestyle Photographer

I love these “just for fun” sessions! Mike & Cassie have been great friends since they moved to Utah – and since they were leaving us for Texas we had to squeeze in a session before they left. Cassie is an illustrator, Mike’s a programmer, they LOVE making smoothies, having picnics and riding bikes. *whew* We did it all.:)

Herbert Family – Utah Lifestyle Photographer

Jamie is one of the most amazing moms I know. She knows and can handle chaos better than anyone and absolutely adores her children. Pregnant with #4, she really wanted pictures of her 3 kids before their family changed one last (it is the last, right?) time.:)I knew how involved she is with her kids daily activities, and coerced suggested we do a lifestyle session of what she loves the best. Spending time together as a family, and playing with her kids. And, boy, did we play. Enjoy a glimpse into the Herbert family. They are one of my favorites.
