Seriously. This is one crazy-as race. What kind of cyclist will ride 7 miles, stuff their face with as many donuts as they can possibly stomach, ride another 7 miles, eat again, and then ride ANOTHER 7 miles to the finish. And not just ride. These guys are sprinting AFTER eating a whole bunch of sugar-carbs. Crazy? Yeah. But, this year the Utah Tour de Donut had close to 500 racers. Apparently, craziness is contagious.
My awesome husband recently got into cycling (and by recent, the last year and a half or so) and its been fun to watch him become more skilled, get better equipment, and thoroughly enjoy himself. He road the Tour de Donut last year, and this year I made sure to get in on the action and get some documentation. It was great fun. I also enjoyed seeing a great community of cyclists. I already knew we had an awesome photographer community in Utah, and apparently there is a great cycling/racing circuit as well.
Here’s a few of my man:
Many of you may have heard of the tragic death of the cyclist Elizabeth “Bunny” Bradley. She was recently killed in a head-on collision with a truck while out riding with a group of women. To honor her, a group of riders did a lap in silence, followed by a release of white balloons. It was touching to see how much support the community has put out in respect of her & to support her family.
Other notable cyclists include Regan Fackrell. Check out round 1 of donut eating. He ate 21 the first round. Ummm…yeah. He totally won the race for the third year in a row. Check out the results here.
Here’s Regan posing with Elden, better known as “Fatty” from the FatCyclist. He has an awesome blog and some pretty funny documentation of his rides. Plus some seriously cool jerseys. ETA: He now has his own version of the event. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing. Check it out here.
This is the awesome Lindsay, behind Healthystride.blogspot.com. Her blog is full of awesome inspiration to lose weight through eating healthy and exercising (donuts not regularly included). ETA: Here’s her version of the donut extravaganza.
This is my friend Brad, one of the masterminds behind Infinite Cycles in Riverton. Seriously, if you need a bike mechanic, he’s your man. Heck, even if you don’t need a mechanic you should go to his shop. They’re great. Oh, and he placed 3rd. Awesomeness all around.
Here’s a few of my other favorites, and the rest can be found over here in my smugmug gallery. Enjoy!
P.S. They have a “tandem” category as well as one for those pulling children in trailers. I told Sam we should do a “tandem pulling trailer” next year. Family event? 🙂
so nice, love the colors! sweetness,

Great set Jess. If I had know the Utah Tour de Donut was for real I woulda jumped in.
Those are amazing! Love that you got these. I’m definitely doing that race next year. ; )
